Airbags

Hi

I own a R registered carina 2.0td

Noticed that a warning sticker in the car says that after 10 years you need to get the airbags serviced/checked

Is this just an excuse to make some money on Toyota's part, or a necessary thing?

Thanks

Hi welcome to the site.

I'm afraid it is'nt a money making scam by toyota (although they do have some) there is an explosive charge inside and

a gas that inflates the bag and after time this gas escapes so you need to have it checked, after all it could save your life,

and i don't know whether you can have them recharged or whether you need to buy new.

Hope this helps.

If it was an excuse to make money you would need it checking yearly....Not every TEN!

The airbags have a charge in them and are also made of various plastics and latex. They are non servicable, IE you cant do anything with them other than inspect the electonics. You would need to replace the unit to be sure they worked. Like everything else, they will be made to last at least ten years and probably much longer, the warning sticker is there to say they dont last forever

Kingo

Thanks for the info

A trip to Toyota then - I guess you dont find many independant specialists who deal with this sort of thing?
