......will the 5afe engine ( this is the jap 1.5 ltr engine) run off the 7afe ecu or would it have to changed.

i think the loom would be similiar as they are both afe engines but im not too sure about the ecu... and if i had to change it would it be a case of just plugging out the 7afe one and plugging in the 5afe ecu using the same connectors??

thanks in advance..........

I think you'll be fine, but 5A-FE's are weaker than 7A-FE's. I think even the block parts are interchangeable (I.E. compressor, pumps, etc). What you should be aware of, is what "generation" of the engine you have, bc there where two (I think), that are easily recognizable by the valve cover appereance (how the look):

Early 4A-FE and 5A-FE

Late 4A-FE and 5A-FE

That said, if you are looking to replace a 7A-FE, you should look for a late 5A-FE, and specify that to who you're buying from. Also, please dont take my word like god's law, before making a buy decision, you should wait a more technical response as I'm not a mechanic (although I'm pretty sure you can't go wrong with the suggested engine).
