All Season Tyres Vs Summer Tyres

There seems to be some debate about whether Winter tyres are needed in the UK (personally I think that if a softer compound tyre provides better grip in cold weather then it's worth it), but for now I'm considering All-season tyres on the assumption that they're the next best thing.

I'm looking at the Goodyear Eagle Vector+ (which also seems to be called the EV-2). Is there any disadvantage of this tyre compared to a summer tyre? I don't mind if it wears quicker - my priority is safety.
