Steering Pulls To Left - Have Tried Everything!

Have a '52 Yaris SR, bought it in August and noticed it pulled to the left then, though was told it was just the camber of the road. Now it pulls to the left LOADS, even on a straight road, in the right hand lane of a dual carriageway.

First thought it was the tracking, so had that done, no change.

Kwikfit rechecked the tracking, it was fine, so swapped rear and front tyres around. No change.

Took it to a Toyota garage and they said a 4-wheel alignment would fix it, (they did it using lasers apparently, which would show up anything thats bent, they said.) Had a call "everythings fine with your car now, we fixed it".

No Change.

Am now returning it to Toyoota garage so a technician can drive around with me and try to find what the problem is.

Does ANYONE know what the problem could be??? Had so many people scratching their heads over it I'm getting very frustrated, and this is starting to cost me sooooooo much money. Pllleeeaaassseee help!

Might not be any help, but in my Fiesta I had this thing once where if I braked really hard, the car would try and fly off to the right; Turned out there some contamination in the oil in the brake line, which meant the right disc was getting full force from the brake but the left was getting hardly any.

My point is that it might not necessarily have anything to do with the wheel alignment. Might be one of the wheels is getting held back by something, e.g. if a bearing is failing making one wheel have more friction or something.

I would say this is a braking issue.... one side works far better than the other.

Get it on a rolling road, say at a MOT centre, and get it checked out.

Good luck

I don't think this is a braking issue as it does it regardless of whether I'm braking or not... I guess we'll see what the Toyota garage say, if they can figure it out, but I'll certainnly put your points to them, cheers! :)

Try going for a drive of a mile or so and then feel the hub/wheel to see if it is hot.... if it is hot then there is some form of brake or bearing trouble.

Otherwise you really need to get the geometry checked out.

I hope you get it sorted quickly.

Ahhh I had the same problem a while ago in the Gfs 52 plate yaris.

Hers was caused by being clipped by a a scum bag driving as far as we know a get a way lorry, lucky only £1200 damage to her car others on the street where crushed. After the intial repair Shes couldnt tell but it feel way funny to me and it got worse and worse untill she could make it out.

The steering geometry basically took a wack and went off. The Gf took it back to the insurers repairer 3 times over it and they denied that there was anything wrong. I had taken in to toyota told them it was pulling left and had been clipped on the drivers wheel. They did there magic and came out perfect. Nice chaps even did us a letter stating it was goosed and the insurers paid the bill. Cant remember of the top of my head exactly what they say the did but it only cost about £80 ish so wasnt that much work.

So take it back and tell them to recheck the front suspension and geometory and steering rack.

Also check the tyres sounds strange but if i have hit a large pot hole or been damaged in the past the tyres could have got twisted on the rims and need replaceing. Had it happen on and old escort, a trye change stopped it pulling to one side.

After 2 yrs and lots of driving later it probably could do with tweaking.
