i all

need a bit of help

my surf as suddenly started to play up ,ie the speedo has stoped working & the o/d off light keeps flashing , also the brake light is on when the handbreak is fully off but when i decellorate the light goes out

has any one had this happen to them ? or knows the problem and how to solve it

Check that the alternater is working and that the fanbelt is tight.

the volt meter on the dash shows it is 12 v does that mean the alternater is ok ?

No, you need to get a meter on to the Battery terminals to see what the voltage is at the terminals.

Could be the Speedo sensor. Back of the gearbox by the output to the propshaft.

have the same problem, but when I rev to around 1600 rpm problem dissapear... will check 2morrow...

OK I did a test:) charging 12.92 - 13.9 V seems to me that 2 belts are bit too loose, the same air con one, will try at first to set a proper tension on belts maybe will work. Read somewhere that is a possibility to adjust a voltage regulator does anyone know how?

another update... :) brushes ok, but diods gone on the back plate.. does anybody know how to check that voltage regulator is ok? mine is 80A...
