Advice On New Rav Without Run-flats

Having seen my wonderful but ancient Rav, some friends are considering buying a brand new one. I've seen lots of criticisms of those run-flats, so which model could I recommend them to look at with a proper spare! I think they would prefer Diesel for economy but your thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Oh dear. I had no idea. When did they stop making them with proper spares?

Quite a few of us 'Spareless' types have bought either an aftermarket wheel or sourced an odd RAV wheel of correct size off e-bay and keep it in the load space. Just this morning I had to have a puncture repaired and, though I was able to drive to the tyre fitters as it was a slow puncture, I was glad I had the option of using my spare if needed.

The fitter told me that if I had used the 'Gunk' supplied as part of the emergency punture kit, it would have been unlikely that he could have repaired the tyre.

Think it was last year. They could do what I've done, buy an XT-R (it has normal wheels/tyres) and buy

an aftermarket alloy wheel & tyre. Keep it in the boot, cost around £180.

My XT5 was registered in March 08 and that came without a spare. The change must have been about then as the dealer didn't know if it would arrive with a spare or not. I'm driving around with a spare in the load space as well.
