Fitting A Rear Arb

Took a few pictures while fitting my rear ARB. Very very easy to do if you have the tools

:- jack, pair of axel stands, 19mm spanner, 19mm socket and WD40

took me around 45 minutes but i did paint both my back calipers in this time, took my brother about 20 minutes at half seven in the morning before we set off to santa pod

1. jack up the car

this is the jacking point from the rear, i don't like the idea of jacking up one side first then doing the other side, so I jacked it up here and I could get both axel stands under the car in one go

Obv axel stands go under the rear side jacking points, the sill with the cuts outs on.

You can see the stock ARB sat in the middle of the torsion beam

Now you have the car jacked up give the bolt and nut that holds the bar in place a spray with wd40 or other lubricant. You also want a decent bar over your socket to increase leverage.

(p.s i haven't lost a finger)

Right, the passenger side is easier to remove as you can kick your foot against the torsion bar when un-doing the bolt, once the seal (just build up crap really) is broken you will need to stick your spanner on the nut to stop it just turning around with the bolt.

254706_10150755098590431_874815430_20059675_8248384_n.jpg

To be fair, it was very tight, but not stuck or seized. so it came out pretty easy.

For the otherside i took my wheel off as you aren't pulling to the rear to loosen your pushing to the front. (i was also swapping all my wheels over for santa pod so this on the menu anyway, so all my rear wheel nuts were loosened before jacking up) you can see it abit better too

297820_10150755096945431_874815430_20059665_8236686_n.jpg

so you can see where the nuts comes throught from the underside and where the bolt sits, here is a better view

294790_10150755093050431_874815430_20059645_4011483_n.jpg

Just be careful when using a spanner at the top, to stop the nut turning, that it doesn't bend and oh the brake line supports.

Once you have removed the nut and bolt from both sides it ready to pull out your stock ARB, i just jammed my spanner in the center of the bar and pried it out, alot easier than i thought. All happened it abit too quickly, didn't get a pic

here are the two bars to compare

300805_10150755100840431_874815430_20059687_1613668_n.jpg

yes it does look longer, but its just the way they are laid.

Installing the new bar is simple, might need a small bash to get into place but nothing major. its alot easier to see if the holes line up for the bolt to fit through if you have the wheels off but no problem if not.

297855_10150755111255431_874815430_20059778_7298079_n.jpg

tighten the bolts up using the same tools as before

297845_10150755113175431_874815430_20059803_5939267_n.jpg

once both sides are tightened (sorry i have no torque settings, just just tightend until i went blue)You can stick your 'progress' sticker right in the middel of the bar and admire (other lesser brands are available)

you can put your wheels back on, if you took them off, and jack up the car again and remove your axel stands then lower your car.

no pictures of it finished as i can't find my sticker, once i do i'll put some up

then Take it for a spin :yahoo:

Its not a guide as such because im not a mechanic but i hope it helps people in the furture. ( if there are any faults, lack of political correctness or blatent H&S issues then be nice and just let me know)

The bar feels mint, give you loads more confidence in cornering as every little correction is so positive.

Santa pod was amazing

I smashed my PB four / five times it was a really good weekend

I was running 15.2's and 15.1's in the morning constant then in the afternoon after abit of a break and grub i ran a couple of flat 15's then ran a 14.94 and my final PB of 14.91

The sunday was very busy and i couldn't find the zone, had trouble launching and best i could do was a hand full of 15's 15.1's and .2's

great weekend tho

My brother managed a 15.3 in his first visit in his T sport.

Also met a lad in a black pre facelift who was running mid 15's

Yeah I think so.

Im not saying there was any street racing going on, all the people attending santa pod are paying money to race there cars legally and would have thier hobby distroyed by a loss of licence or a crashed car, but the roads to santa pod are all narrow 50/60 mph twisting roads and the car didn't miss a beat.

I wasn't expecting to much as I swapped my 17's with 225 tyres for stock 16's but it really surprised me. corners ranging from 20/30/40 mph were no trouble at all.

Should really of been done by toyota

14.91 is fair going, what speed did you cross the line at??

Was that with full interior & spare wheel??

The best I managed with my 306 Rallye at York was standing qtr in 14.808 @ 94.55mph with a 0-60 in 6.44, that was fully stripped out & only the drivers seat & harness and next to no fuel in the tank. Only mods to the engine were a home made induction kit & a decat.

First time I ran it the best I managed was 15.49 in totally standard unstripped form. Removing 70kg knocked 0.3 off, decat & induction gave me another 0.2 off, finally 50psi in the rear tyres, 25psi in the fronts & no burnout on the Yoko Parada's got me down to 14.80.

My T-Sport does feel quicker in a straight line but when I take it to York I won't be carrying a spare wheel or rear seats!!

If you search Photobucket for midlife_01 you will find the progress I've made on the 306, it's still in a million bits waiting a few expensive parts I can't afford just yet but it's got £2.5k worth of rear suspension, front coilovers, 330mm front discs with Brembo 4 pot calipers, low compression forged engine intervals & a Rotrex supercharger. When all back together it will be producing in excess of 420bhp & should be a bit of a weapon on the sprint/hillclimb circuit....

Sorry for the o/t

That was with the back seats out and spare wheel out. Tyres were 30 rear and 28 front, didn't really burnout cos I was using my toyos that im saving for winter when i store my Rota alloys.

Looking at maybe getting some toyo 888's with my brother.

I've ran 15.2 stock

I don't know if im doing anything different but my times really struggled to progress since i Bought the K&N typhoon.

Crossed the line at 94ish.

Santa pod doesn't record the 0-60 but if you get 6.44 on a 14.8 run i must defo be under 7 seconds 0-60

Its such a buzz beating your best time isn't it, im hoping to improve on the 14.9

I would be up for a york raceway trip if your ever planning one.

How much difference did the decat make??

Yoko Parada's are sweet.

Your 306 sounds like a monster

Oh it will be a monster when I eventuall afford to finish it.

Here it is on it's last outing...

If you do a search on "YouTube for ring taxi near crash" it's a mate of mine with the exact same suspension setup as mine, he has smaller brakes though & a STD engine and he manages to stay with a ring taxi M5 for a full lap even overtaking it once, it's a really good seat of your pants video to watch.....

  • 3 weeks later...

Well, I had a bad & a good day on Thursday.

I took the Corolla to:-

Montgomery Autos

Lenches Rd,

Colne,

BB8 8ET

01282 859862

Monty69 off 306gti6.com

Plan of attack was for him to fit my new goodies & I would borrow his 106 to go to work in. Everything went well & I set off in the 106. I thought I'd be nice & stick some fuel in so I went to asda but I wasn't sure if it was petrol or diesel so I rang Dave but no answer, I thought it can't be a diesel so put £10 of petrol in. I drove to the cabin to pay, wound the window down & what's that I hear..... Yes that old familiar diesel rattle!!!! Ohhhh what a ***** I am, to cut a long story short I ended up filling the tank up with diesel and all is well (fingers crossed).

Some of the bits ready for fitting.

a4e9b0aa.jpg

First to be fitted was the Progress rear anti roll bar that I got from Luke, it was a straight fit as the holes lined up

Next up were the uprated & lowered springs.

Next new discs.

Dave looking tired:thumbsup

DS2500's fitted:ninja

Last up were the Fensport stainless braided hoses, no pics of these though as the rush was on to get the brakes bled & get it back on it's wheels....

Before

a23ced68.jpg

After

83d8f889.jpg

All I can say is that the change is phenomenal, zero body roll & it now stops on a dime!!!

I can't wait to to give it some grief on the twisties this weekend!!

Thank you very much Dave & Luke!!!!!
