Hi everyone, I have a 06 Yaris, 2 months ago i went to start the car, it turned over then died out, tried a few more times to no avail, left car for 10 mins and started straight away, worked fine for a month or so then the same problem, worked fine in the morning but in the evening wont start (turned over the died) left it a few minutes then started. Same thing again today. Does anyone have any ideas. Thanks

Any warning lights?

Is it petrol or diesel?

I would suggest:

intermittent bad Battery connection.. remove both terminals, clean and retighten.. And if that does not solve it...

Its 1 litre petrol, no warning lights. The thing is it starts for one or two seconds each time then dies out, will do this for a while, then if you try later it will start, and work for several weeks, before the same thing will happen.

Doess it stop cleanly? Just at once? No misfire?

If yes, it sounds like ignition. As it is intermittent, sounds like a sensor failure.. possibly crankshaft sensor. What happens is the coil inside the sensor breaks, and vibraton makes it open a little , the wires no longer touch and it fails, No ignition. And more vibration and it closes..

The only way to test is by replacement.

Hi, yes it stops cleanly every time, if it was some sort of sensor failure wouldn't the engine management light come on. Might it be the immobiliser?
