avensis petrol smell

Hi all

Ive a 04 2.0l avensis petrol. When I start it  I can smell a strong petrol smell but cant see any leaks anywhere. Anyone any thoughts on the cause

Have you checked the tank under the rear seats? Any fuel lines cracked injectors loose? Check the charcoal canister too.

Also look in the engine compartment. Remove the engine cover and check the fuel pipes from the high pressure pump to the injectors, and especially the injector seals to the engine. This engine has direct injection, which means the fuel system is under a much higher pressure than regular indirect fuel injection. Leak may occur with age and the higher pressure.

PS:

The 2 litre 1AZ and 2.4 litre 2AZ were the only direct injection petrol engines, used on the Avensis range to date. They were dropped and no T27 {Mk3) has a direct injection petrol - somebody disputed this, but I know otherwise.
