What Does "inspect Charcoal Canister" Mean?

I've serviced my own Yaris for the last four years, since the warranty expired.

I gave it the full works at the weekend - plugs, oil & filter, air filter, replaced brake fluid & engine coolant - but I don't know what the service book means by "inspect charcoal canister", so couldn't do that....

Does anyone know where this mythical canister is and what you should do to check it?

Thanks.

It's the main part of the catalytic converter, I believe but God knows what you're supposed to do to check it.

edit: or, having Googled, that could be a load of tosh and it's in the engine compartment and designed to absorb fuel vapours.
