Corner Handling

hi i have just joined the owners club today and it looks great! i wonder if anyone has any suggestions as to a better tyre for my t sport - its a 2002 model and i bought it at a dealer and was amazed to see the previous owner had not long before selling put 4 new alloys(mega wheels) and 4 michelin pilot primcy tyres on the car, but i find the handling round corners uninspiring and in the wet i leave the traction control on as i feel the car doesnt grip as well as i would have expected on a t sport-my wife has a fiesta ghia x and it holds like its on rails!(and its an s reg!) could it be the chassis ,as top gear did comment that the t sports have a 'lacklustre' chassis.

i bought the car 2 years ago so it could just be tyre wear ,so if anyone has any suggestions on good value alloys and tyres which may make a difference i would be very grateful-also is it poss to put 17" alloys on a standard 16" wheel car or would this alter the safety and balance etc. thanks to all in advance for any advice regards ardbrand
