Tsport Low Idle

Have noticed lately my TSports (2002) idle regularly dropping to 500-600, it dosnt stall or anything but it seems very low, you can feel the car struggling to tick over at times.

Its the same with AC on or off.

It generally recovers itself after 5 seconds or so and returns to about 800rpm.

Any ideas?

That's normal.

On cold days, mine can get to 1200-1500rpm when it idling, before i comes down to about 600-700rpm

Clean your throttle body, check your idle air control valve and clean that. Failing all change the spark plugs. Mine used to go up and down and generally sit low. Got new spark plugs hey presto its perfect! but yea it is quite common for them to do that. If it struggles to stay on check your Battery as when i put a weak Battery in my car it caused my car to idle funny

i found my old Battery was slightly knackered. I tried a weaker Battery from one of our other cars and that made my idle go proper funky. After installing my yellow top its just chilling at 800rpm like it should

is it possible your car is just running lumpy (rich)? my escort really does not like the cold weather and will run lumpy all the way upto normal idle speed where it starts too sound normal again
