Corolla Startup On A Cold Day

Just wondering if this is normal. Started up my Corolla 1.4 VVTI 05 plate today, and it started revving by itself with the car in neutral. It did this for a couple of minutes and then stopped.

I'm guessing, this was some sort of warming up procedure it goes through for cold mornings. Is this the case, or should I be worried?

Cheers for you help and advice.

My old car used to do this. I was inside my house and could hear my car revving up i ran out side thinking someone was trying to drive it off but there was no one to be seen i was very freaked out lol

My 1.6 Corolla has always revved up to 1500 after start up, depending on the the outside temperature. I am told that it normal and has something to do with keeping the emissions down.

When the cars cold this can happen...but does it drop down below 8,000 rpm and then go up.?? or is it just a small revving.?

Cheers for the response guys.

I guess you'd call it 'small' revving.

Heard a Type R doing this one night after a nightclub cleared out.. Was absoloutely freezing.. Sounded like the guy had his foot half on the accelerator. They just idle higher when they're cold though.

both my dads 1.6 avensis and my womans 1.5 vitz do this on cold mornings, rev to about 2000rpm for about 1 minute, as was said its the choke and to warm up the engine, she wont run right on a cold morning on idle revs, just a helping start
