It depends what you want from a roll cage...if you want it just for looks then think again. In the event of a crash your likely to do yourself more harm than good...by the time your head has bounced off the bars once or twice there wont be much brain function left.

If you want a functional cage for track/motorsport the your first port of call should be the FIA website...in that site you can purchase the homolgation rule book for your car...this will give details of the standards that the cage must conform too...it will also be a good guide to a safe cage....the homolgation rule bppk will set you back about £51.

After that its pretty much the worlds your oyster....a good bolt in cage should be the minimum but not a route I`d personally go down.

For a custom cage then look at some of these guys

http://www.robinson-race-cars.co.uk/index.htm

http://www.customcages.co.uk/homepage

http://www.aas-exhausts.co.uk/ - these do roll cages aswell...but maybe a bit far up north for you.

But again, if the Shell is just for show I`d think again....perhaps make it from plastic piping if it is just for show....light, easy to bend and form, easy to cut etc etc etc and if you bang your head against it it will not turn your brain to mush as quickly as a steel cage will.

If you want to make your own then you`ll need some welding gear, a tube notcher and some CDS tube (cold drawn seamless) alot of time...oh and a pipe bender.....remember that the B-pilar hoop and the door frame hoops must be made from a single piece of bent tube...no welded connections.

i have a bolt in cage in the rolla, its a safety devices MSA spec one VERY VERY sturdy. it dosnt however bolt to the floor. i had to weld 5mm plates to the inner sill section to mount it.

looking at custom cages they look very well made and doing a search on corolla the look like they do one for about £600

If your doing it prior to turning it into the mid engined layout, I`g give some thought to a serious full on roll cage and adapt it to a semi space frame design...you could then use it to mount the engine etc to.

yeah its pretty solid TBH. going to add in a few bars though (mount for the harness as i need to add a fire wall so cant use the current mounts).

might weld it in then as well. it does mount to the a posts and the roof side rails to very well tied into the Shell.

TBH there wont be much structure removed when doing the swap and some extra bracing will be applied as well.

i went overboard as well when making the floor mounts very belt and braces design ;)
