Rattling

Over the last few days I've noticed a rattle occuring at low revs. It's quite a metallic sound so hoping maybe something has worked loose. There doesn't seem to be any performance issues and the rattle does stop just before 3000rpm. Are there any common faults I should be looking into before I cart it off to a garage? It seems to be coming from just behind the front axle without me going underneath the car.

check the bolts to the evap canister on the right side of engine bay. Use a long screw driver and place it on some components to help amplify the sound so you know what it is.

Nice one. I'll check that as soon I get some daylight time with the car. Work and winter do not mix well!

Aux belt idler or the heat shield above the exhaust manifold

Cool, I'll try that too.

Are any of the possibilities mentioned likely to cause any major problems as I doubt I'll get it sorted this side of xmas?

Well, driving home yesterday I noticed the car was feeling a little bit lethargic and it sounds like the exhaust may be blowing. As I only bougth the car 3 weeks ago I'm wondering if the dealer gummed it up as a temp fix. Would a blowing centre section effect the performance much?
