2007 D4-d Cold Start Problem

When the ignition is turned on the glow plugs heat up the air and allows the diesel to self ignite when the engine is turned over, so I normally don't try to start my engine especially in cold weather until the glow plug light goes out and it always starts first time.

Off the beaten track my old Pajero you can hear the glow plug relay closing to heat up the glow plugs and you don't try to start until the glow plug light goes out. Even sometimes when the engine has started you can hear the ECU closing the glow plug relay to add a little heat to the engine when the temperature is low
