Auris hybrid 12v battery replacement

Hi all,

as we have been discussing Battery problems in other posts on Thursday evening  my car refused to start.
It did unlocked itself though with keyless but then after no brake booster sound and obviously no start, the interior lights were dimmed.
I have tried to recharge with smart charger in auto mode with 0.8amp supply and after 30-40 min Battery shows full 13.0v , disconnected the charger and voltage dropped to low 11.2v, and 10v after a while, definitely a new Battery was needed.
I booked for collection from nearest GSF car parts a Yuassa S46B24R for £174 with 10% discount but next day they didn’t have it in stock so I rung Toyota local dealer and they had one for only £136, it looks the same battery with Toyota labels.
With the use of smart charger I jump started the old lady and collected the new battery, all fitted in easily, similarly to the hybrid battery  replacement very enjoyable experience. Anyone looking for a new battery either big or the small one , just buy from Toyota dealer. 👍
The original battery does look indeed the one supplied with the car back in 2010. , AGM - good technology 👌

Blimey you're becoming the Battery swap master! - Both times so smooth, no hitches

Says Made in Korea so unlikely to be one of the unreliable Mutleys we got

Cheers,

I should have taken more pics and ideally vacuum the surroundings where the 12v Battery seats but all work was done while raining ️, not the best time for extras 😉 and no joke so easy to change it, just a 10mm 🔧 and a couple of minutes.
Note that if no original Battery is placed the vent hole on aftermarket batteries like Bosch or Varta is smaller and you will need to drill 8mm or do additional fittings so can accommodate the tube correctly. That’s for the Auris owners 👌

It's seems that your original Battery lasted 14 years! I was thinking of replacing ours 2014 model thinking it's 10 years is pushing a bit. But nice to know that it may have more life. Cheers.

14 years is amazing. Mine is barely 8 years old.  Tony's Battery failed from 1 of the cells completely dead and it is typically what happened when Battery died. The capacity gets lower and lower and it is fine for most hybrid car. However, if one of the cells dead, it is dead.

Hi gang, think I, will get one next service .You get a bit of warning,as start gets a bit groany, next day it will be flat.Didn,t notice the Noco jumper was in off mode while not watching,so I doubled up with a charger and that was enough to light it up.Sùre I must be joke of the street, with the AA parked outside.

Just had to do same first one wouldn’t fit so had to go back for a shorter Battery so it would go under the clamps

A question from a non hybrid owner.

I've often wondered if removing or disconnecting the 12v Battery in a hybrid causes the internal combustion engine to loose its optimal settings so that they need to be relearned like they would in a conventional ICE car?

I can’t answer for sure but it does reset something because after reconnect the Battery the car doesn’t start with press on brake pedal and push start button but requires twice to do so and then starts . Every time the car goes into ON mode ( all lights are ON on dashboard the throttle body valve and egr vale are moving, I can hear them their actuators are working so it is likely similarly to non hybrid cars the engine gets reset its values and settings to default ones.

Thanks Tony, it is something I had wondered about and particularly with so many Battery issues and folk possible removing batteries to charge them. Hmm, interesting.
