1998 Prius Display Screen White

Hi just brought a 1998 Prius and the screen is not working. It comes on and just shows a white backgound, when you press one of the buttons on the dash it turns off. 1: has it been disconected as it is also a tv screen. 2: is it a common fault and need new screen/reprogramming 3: is there a company that is good to use for parts repairs in Essex UK. Thanks in advance for any help. Paul
