Rear Wheel Noise

Hi i have a 2.0 avensis which has just developed a strange noise on the drivers side rear wheel. It only happens when i brake or drive at a very slow speed. its started quite recently and sounds like a metallic rattle. I have taken the wheel off but cant find anything obvious. Any ideas pleas?

"YES" i too thought brake pads, never heard it myself but was told its like a screeshing sound like a a thin tinny thing rubbing against a plate rotating "brake disc" and it will wear away if not dealt with, i would get it dealt with before you have no braking power.

What about wheel bearing giving up the ghost.....
