What Oil Do I Need For A Verso D-4-D?

I had my used corrolla verso diesel for 6 months now and i am very happy. I haave been told by a friend that as it is diesel engine, oil needs to be topped up regularly but i am not sure what oil i should be using. I read the manual but it was very confusing. I contacted two toyota dealers over the phone and one suggested the 10w-40 and the other said it is definitly 5w-30. I am very confused and worried that i could damage my lovely car using the wrong oil...any advice please

Sam not knowing your reg no or that it was a 2.2 (its not in your sig) I punched in a 2.0d model and it came out 5-40 ;)
