Make Of Oil

Hi there,

I have the choice between two types of oil for my car, both 5w30, both fully synthetic, the only difference is the make (and ultimately price).

One is Castrol Magnatec, the other is Unipart.

The Castrol is £26 inc P&P and the Unipart is only £18 inc P&P.

My question to you guys is:

Is there any advantage in choosing either brand over the other?

cheers

Steve :)

for my car semi synthetic is recommended and i use mr t's own 5w-30. it's good oil. i don't see the logic in paying for premium oils when firstly i do oil change every 7-8k and mr t's own stuff is decent, it's not like it's total cr*p so that's my view.

Check the api and acea numbers.

The best is API - SM/CF

ACEA - A3,A4,B4.

if it has those values on the bottle. Then it doesnt matter on branding. It will be fine for your engine. I stick with full synthetic 5w/30 oil.

Thank-you the Unipart and Castrol had exactly the same API amd ACEA values so I ordered the cheaper unipart product.

I know the Castrol got a high recommendation but I don't have a lot of money right now so I'm trying to do things as cheaply as possible, while keeping the car in the best condition I can. :)

Thanks for all the help :)

Castrol would have been 4L anyway not enough for the engine it takes 4.4L

mine takes over 5L lol, maybe cos it has to be shared with the turbo. is slightly annoying having to buy a 1L bottle along with 5L but no avoiding that.

Just noticed it's t3 so 4L might do it anyway.
