Replacing A Cd Optical Pickup!

have you made any progress since making this post? It's almost a month old now.

If the optical section is causing the problem then there are a couple of things to try.

1. clean the lens directly with IPA or meths on a cotton bud. Cleaning discs don't really get to the real dirt.

2. Oil any runners that the optical unit moves on. Use 3 in 1 oil and wipe it on with a cotton bud. You just need a very thin film on them to make a massive difference.

3. There is always a potentiometer (trimmer) directly linked to the laser intensity. If this is trimmed VERY SLIGHTLY it will increase the intensity of the laser. This is a bit of a last resort thing to do, but it works. Finding it, however, isn't always as straight forward.

On the new optical system, there will be a solder bridge or link, probably on the ribbon cable. This has to be removed AFTER the unit is fitted, or the unit won't work. There can be alignment issues too, but most of the current tech stuff has auto alignment.
