Hi guys

Have any of you experiences of buying or using a roofbox?

Should I buy genuine Toyota bars?

What size of box should I buy?

Will it effect my fuel economy?

Thanks

Not too sure i'd put anything on my Prius, as to economy - a resounding yes, it will kill economy stone dead! I'm pretty certain they alter the handling too.

Thule (pronounce: Toolay) are definitely the best, but you pay more. Ralph's shop is next door to the Thule factory, although I think they are about to move.

In December 2009 when I collected my new Gen 3 T Spirit I got a set of Toyota's Gen 3 roof bars at the same time (cost £136.40 inc. VAT).

However I have yet to use them for the following reason:

The bars come with a small rubber block that is 5mm thick. Before fitting the bars you are told to use this block to check the

door gap is at least 5mm. It goes on to say "In case the gap is less than 5mm, the doors need to be lowered by a dealer"

(It also says that instructions on how to lower doors are found on Toyota's tech.doc. website).

One of my doors is slightly less than 5mm but I am not that keen on having my doors "adjusted" even by a Toyota Dealer.

We are only talking of lowering it by 0.5mm to 1mm, which by my standards is an incredibly small adjustment.

So I have avoided using the bars so far. However, I may try to see if they will fit

albeit with a rather tight gap on one door.

By the way Toyota's bars come with:

"Standard High Speed (Noise) Kit"

This is a set of 3 no. 100mm moulded plastic strips that stick underneath the front bar

and thus disrupt/improve the air flow!

Will be following this thread and interested in the outcome, as we'll probably want a set for our car we've just purchased today.
