check with :

glow plugs as the first thing;

You're being fobbed off if the smoke is as bad as you say.

I'd ask a diesel specialist to have a look.

On the starter motor - is it manual or automatic?

Hey brother.

I have the same model as you do, same year.

So, you are not the only one who experienced that thing. I'd also say it's normal

because i have it too, and my friend who owns also this model.

In the cold weather that is normal, just untill the car heats up. But, if it means that

much to you, you can press the button for faster heating up while you are still on

the parking. It is placed on the left side of the steering wheel, near the rear fog lamp

button. See in the user manual which is exactly so you do not press something else.

If you have an english version, so it's just the opposite.

By the way, you will notice on the cold weather if you enter garage your outside mirrors

will be covered in mist. In this case you press mirror heating which is near that button

i wrote about above.

About that 'bang' you said. That might be with batteries.

For these years my Prado spent more time in than out so when i wanted to drive it

my batteries were basically dead. Also had that problem of not starting good.

I bought new ones and now it works like a charm.

Cheers
