MY tranny Hi My tranny went on my 1987 camry, any way its still goin but sluggish going into gear , takes about 10 seconds then goes from a dead stop, I drained the fluid and changed the filter it got a little better but my mechanic friend says its no big deal to replace the tranny with another rebuilt or from a junk yard even cheaper, . whats the scoop can he do it in his back yard , hes says its a snap.???:o

Yep, the tranny in an 87 should be a snap. A basic set of wrenches, a couple of six packs and some muscle should do it in a day in your garage. The problems you may encounter will stem from worn ball joints, (this is an 87) tie rod ends, wheel bearings, rotors, drive axles and lets not forget about your struts. You probably don't need to replace everything but I'd give them all a good hard look before deciding to tear the tranny out. You can do all those things yourself real easy if you have the right tools and about $400.
