this is my fathers car so i might be a little vague.

He has a 3 year old Corolla 1.4 vvt, the engine management light came on last week so he took it to the dealer.After about 20 mins the technician said he had a problem with a gear on the VVT system and it would cost over £600 to repair. He turned the dash light out and said it was still ok to drive but it might only last 6 months. The car is only 2 weeks out of warrenty so the technician advized he should take out an extended warrenty at £300, so my father did.

Has anybody heard of this fault as i feel my father may have been ill advised and if there is such a fault it should be done under warrenty anyway. My father is 78 so i am just trying to look out for him as you can appreciate.
