Had this car a while now, lovely little machine.

I know the timing chain is an issue (makes rattle when oil light is off on start up). But recently its been stallling a bit more, and "shuddering" if that makes sense.

I also know the spark plugs and points havent been done for years, so should i do these? and if so how??? any net links, tis my first car and i wanna look after it, but know little about mechanics

Plugs, Points, Dis-cap all will last longer than they should. As a rule 30 to 40 thousand miles are about what they should be driven then changed.

A quick check would be to pull the cap off and look at the points. Both sides should be flat and smoth like a mirror. I'm betting yours is pitted and look more like the bottom of a shoe.

As these are impartant parts of the spark for the motor to run, it may be all the problems your having.
