Wobbly Steering On Rough Roads

I've noticed that whenever I drive at slow speeds typically in first and second gear on a road that is not completely smooth, the car tends to wobble around and follow any dips in the road, there is also a rattling that can be felt in the steering wheels at slow speeds on rough roads, particularly noticable when pulling to a stop. The vibrations tend to dissapear at higher speeds and i have no problems on the motorway etc. I'm having a 4-wheel alignment done on the car on Friday in case that is the culprit but does anyone have any other ideas as to what could be causing this problem?
