I just noticed that the coolant in the res. is at low. Can someone recommend some coolant to buy so I can top it up. My Rav is a 2008 D4D XTR

Must ONLY be the pink stuff.....do not mix with any green or blue antifreeze.

Where has it gone? The coolant level shouldn't really move unless somebody has interfered, the water pump is weeping or worse.

Take NO NOTICE of the colour of the coolant - there are no agreed standards for colours, and manufacturers use them arbitrarily.

If you don't know what is in there, then drain and replace it completely. Keep the container, so you can get more if you need it. NEVER mix coolant types (eg long-life and standard) or brands. Nasties (goo, crystallization, precipitation...) can result if you're unlucky with a "cocktail".

If you need to dilute a coolant, always use distilled/deionized/demineralized water, NOT tapwater.

I only use pink in the RAVs because it avoids any confusion caused by discolouration. There was a time when pink was alcohol based and that must not be mixed with ethylene glycol.

I believe Toyota currently sell two premixed coolants, with names designed to confuse.

Long life coolant is red and I believe it was fitted to older cars. (Pre 2004 ??)

Super Long life coolant is a fluorescent pink (Good for 10 years 100K Miles)

Supposedly you can add red to pink, but then the coolant looses its Super long life benefits.

I think you have to be very careful with the type of coolant that you use! especially in Mr T cars!... I'd stick to the genuine Pink Toyota stuff... Search on eBay and you'll pick it up for a song! I did... 5L for £10 :drunk:
