Fuel Efficiency For 2005 Model, 2.7 Litre

I live in Kenya. Recently bought a 2005 model Hilux Surf.

Am currently getting around 6.5kilometres to the litre. Slightly concerned by the fuel efficiency and it was serviced recently with no problems.

Is this fuel efficiency normal?

Equates to about 18.3 mpg. Is this petrol or diesel? What type of journeys - rural?

It's a Petrol Engine, mainly City driving, hardly rural done yet

In the UK one website - Honest John - allows owners to post the fuel consumption they get from their vehicles. The nearest we have to the Hilux Surf is the Hilux 2.5 diesel, and for mixed driving (city and motorway) owners are getting between 27 and 31 mpg or between 11.4 and 13.1 kilometres per litre.

Many thanks for the info. Will have to get the engine checked by a mechanic because that's a big difference. I wonder if the oil in the Engine needs to be checked.

Bear in mind that there will be a difference as you're comparing petrol with diesel - and yours will be more thirsty than a diesel.
