Avensis 2.2Turbo Diesel Died At 90,000 Miles

On Friday my 2005 Avensis 2.2 Diesel made horrible knocking noise and black smoke. Relayed back to dealer and bad injector fault shown. Today I have been advised the injector was OK but sump is full of broken metal so a new engine at £3,500 is required.

I have had the car from new. Had all the service done at the dealer I bought it from. Had a new block at 70,000 miles on a Toyota recall. The car has 90,000 miles now.

Do you think this is reasonable? Do you think I have any recourse? In my view the car is now a right off as it's only worth £3,000.

Thanks for moving this post. My dealer recommends I talk to Toyota Customer Care. I will let you all know how I get on.

When you say 'new engine' presumably that's brand new from Toyota? You could explore other options - a second hand unit from a damaged vehicle.
