Which Avensis

Hi. I've already got an IQ but am looking to replace our family car - a Ford CMAX.

I want to spend around £5000-7000. I need an estate car. The car will do lots of short journeys and after my CMAX (2.0Tdi) I am wary of Diesels (Dual mass flywheel - ouch!!, DFP), so I want a petrol. The Avensis is the logical choice.

Trouble is I am not sure what to go for -

- Late old model Avensis. Well proven, but later models have lots of gizmos,e.g. built in Sat-Nav which I am a bit wary about.

- New model 1.6. There are lots of these around, but won't the 1.6 struggle lugging the estate car around? Does this mean real world fuel economy is bad (it is more powerful than the old 1.8 VVTI engine - in the real world does it pull better?)

- New model 1.8. Not many around at this price point. I could pay more, but is the extra worth it for an extra 20 bhp?

Opinions appreciated

06+ avensis 1.8 vvti I would go for, no dpf no dmf no cam belt changes but does have a chain so I would change oil more regular. I am not to keen on electric handbrake on the new shape.the top model in the 1.8 estate is the TR.
