no no no no no...well sort of

Luckly i do know what im on about here

Basicly any celica which ends in a 5 has a 3SGTE in it, i.e.

ST165, ST185, ST205 or the caldina ST215

Every celica which ends in a 2 has 90% likely got a 3SGE, like the ST162, ST182 & ST202. I say 90% because the STXX2 models can also have a 3SFE as in your case.

The AT200 is an ST202 (Gen 6) with the 1.8 engine. Apologies if i am wrong but im sure this 1.8 engine is the 5AFE.

Pretty straight forward really.

Has yours got 4 wheel steering? I know of Gen5 members on www.celica-club.co.uk who have Celica GTR's and they are ST183's... I've got an ST182 Jap Import - no rear wheel steering, so I would've assumed it's a GTi, just like the U.K. ST182 is a GTi....

is there a button I can look for

Yeah, there is... look down near your gearlever - there should be a button there marked 2WS, or something like that. It 'locks' the rear wheels straight. Apparently it's mainly used for when reversing, or when maintenance is being done one the car!

There may be another one too - marked TEMS. This is the the electronic suspension.

Just lookedin your gallery, asha, and it looks like there is a button near the gearshift... what does it say on it?

NOt all GTR's are St183 - only 4ws models are ST183 afaik

take a look at http://www.celica-club.co.uk/cgibin/phpbb2...9&highlight=gtr

I could be completely wrong about it all, however! :D

I have a button on the gear stick o/d (over drive) and then I have a button at the bottom of the gear stick pwr (power) gives that extra bit of speed  I also have a button next to pwr for manual driving. never touch that one.

what does NA stand for?

This is weird - I've just tried to find where I found out most of this stuff, and it was in my first post on this forum... And it was you who told me about the 2WS button! ;)

Have a read of this... http://toyotaownersclub.com/forums/index.p...topic=11793&hl=

I now know I was mistaken, and mine's not a GTR.... I'd say by the looks of things neither is yours

 No problem. Got to the bottom of it all in the end, I think!

I'm 99.9% sure mine is just a GTi... I think the 'R' in GT-R is for 'Rear'

Yep, they are import only! :D

So, errr...... we still haven't worked out what mine is then! :crybaby:

  • It's definitely an import, cos all the stickers are in japanese, the odometer and speedo are in KM, and the log book says 'Imported in 1999'
  • It's had the rear fog light conversion done
  • It doesn't have 4WS
  • It has folding electric mirrors
  • Superlive sound system
  • Climate control
  • The chassis number is ST182xxxxxxx
  • It's got kind of suede/velour seats

Anyone got any ideas?

OK.... after being completely wrong in every respect on this thread, I've been sent a link to the japanese spec sheet for all ST18x Celicas...

Asha - We were both kind of right on this one. ;) The GTR can be one of two models... ST182, like mine and yours, and an ST183 which has the 4-wheel steering!

here's the link... http://www.artemis.bm/misc/specsheet.jpg

Nothing wrong with her even if it turned out she wasn't a GT-R... Still one of the nicest looking cars on the road! ;)

Leeky hi mate  what is an 3SGE

:D

In most Celicas you have either one for three engines:

3SFE - 2Ltr with economy tuning

3SGE - 2Ltr with Sports tuning for higher revs and more power

3SGTE - 2Ltr with Sports tuning and a turbo

You've got the 3SGE, its a great engine. I had the same one in my GT.

Cracking motor btw, i've never seen a GTR upclose so i wouldnt mind taking a peek at it at the next meet

So can a 3SFE be tuned to perform like a 3SGE, then?

Just curious.... :)

No, same bottom different head, you could always buy a g head but that is more expensive than buying the full 3sGE kit and kaboodle which i never understood.
