Leaking Water Pump And Oil Seal

Hello all, I need some help, I just had a full service done for my Avensis 58reg TR Diesel.

I was told I need to replace the water pump because it's leaking and may damage the head gasket. They told me it will cost £605:00 to fix. Can this be repaired by other garages to prevent spending that much?

The other thing I was told that needs attention is the NSF- Drive shaft oil seal leaking as well. I was told this can damage the gear box if not rectified, the bill for that is £378:00.

Does anyone have advice on how I can go about this without spending too much money.

Thanks a lot.

Yes it was from Toyota, I have just been able to bring it to my local garage and they are quoting £670 for both because you have to take the engine out to fix the water pump according to them.

This is why the labour price is so much. I wonder what the parts cost. This is not what I need just before Christmas :(

The engine doesn't have to come out for the water pump. There's video on YouTube which your garage might want to watch before they make up stories.

Also - IF the engine needed to come out for the water pump, both driveshaft seals would need to be swapped as they are delicate and can be damaged in the process. The Toyota dealer ought to know this and it surely would have been incorporated into their quote - thus negating any costs for the other job.

+1 - this is a simple DIYer job. Find another garage.

Thanks for all your replies. A friend introduced me to his garage and they have agreed to fix it for £150 but I need to get the Oil Seal and the Water pump. Any ideas where to get it at a good price?

I wouldn't risk an after-market oil seal. The saving would be minimal.

£150 is a lot for a water pump. its not driven by the timing belt so not that much labour is involved.

Yes Gary is right, You should get a genuine Toyota oil seal Parts king can provide discount for forum members.
