Land Cruiser Equivalent To The Land Rover Defender?

I'm looking to buy an off road vehicle for a trip from the UK to Siberia, we will be travelling over 2 months and 20,000 miles. I was looking at the Defender and people have pointed me towards a Landcruiser, but Im wondering what is the equivalent model, matching in price. Also could you tell me if it is possible to attach a roof tent to it?

Many thanks in advance

If you buy a Land Rover Defender, expect to only reach Dover. Them cars are the worst and so unreliable.

The Land Cruisers sold on the UK market are more equivalent to the Discovery and the Defender

As you've intimated in your profile you're looking for something like a 2004 model, the following are reviews for the 2003-2009 Land Cruiser and the 2010 onwards Land Cruiser:

There was also the Land Cruiser Amazon and the V8 which are higher specs:

The United Nations have used the Land Cruiser for more than 40 years - so it must be pretty good.

The following site may be worth looking at: www.rooftent.co.uk/

Think the vehicle in the video is a Land Cruiser or a Nissan Patrol:

Hi Rebecca.

A small point, it says by your name you have a Landcruiser already so am curious why you don't use that for your trip? I'm only asking as you know this vehicle and reliability has to be a big issue.

Mike.

This weeks's Auto Express (dated 10th December) has a brief article in the Car Hunter series on choosing between the Toyota Land Cruiser, Landrover Defender and Mitsubishi Shogun at page 146.

The Land Cruiser is described as the 'quality choice', the Defender the 'traditional choice' and the Shogun as the 'value choice'.

IMHO, you should not give anything with a LR Badge any consideration. Their reliability is appalling - don't take my word for it, just look at J.D. Power or any other reputable surveys, LR's always finish near the bottom of the table for reliability. The last thing you want in the wilds of the old USSR is a breakdown. Admittedly any vehicle can break down, even a Toyota, but you'll improve your odds dramatically by avoiding LRs. The Defender in particular is a woeful pile of junk. It's a 60 year old design that has never, ever been upgraded apart from some bits of sound-proofing and a different dashboard.

The Aussies have a saying: If you want to go into the Outback, take a Land Rover. if you want to come back, take a Land Cruiser.
