Aygo Clutch Issue

Hi all. I thought i was a toyota fan but have been let down by my new Aygo on more than one occasion. My latest issue on a 2011 Aygo is the clutch became difficult to press.... So i called greenflag out... Thinking i was doing the most sensible thing by not driving the car anymore. i requested a tow to toyota, but the idiot Steve working for Mansfield Recovery told me to drive the car to toyota 9 miles away... Wish i refused now...

Got to Toyota garage and I couldnt engage gear, hope it hasnt got worse...

Update; garage are asked for £620 for a new clutch... But the car should be covered by the Toyota 5year warranty... What a joke... Am i going to have to argue this, this is crazy, in this day and age we have to resort to complaining to get anything done correctly.

i havent called back and confirmed that i'll agree to this yet.

does anyone know if i can refuse them to continue with the repair if their not going to put a new clutch in under the cars warranty? They would have taken the clutch out and maybe the gearbox...

Will they try and charge me if i refuse to continue? Can i have the old clutch put back and tow to a specialist clutch place? Who is the ombudsman for this... I really want to go to Watchdog over this... I hope other aygo owners have. Is there an official complaints body?

Im really upset... My wifes been admitted to hospital today, im really stressed out already... Without toyota adding to my worries.

Can i employ a solicitor to sue toyota for false advertising of their 5 year warranty? The reason why most of us presumably purchased their new cars?

My car is 4 yrs old and has 29k on the clock... Used mainly at weekends for motorway driving.

Has anyone ever managed to get the clutch replaced free of charge under warranty?

Many thanks

Depends on what was wrong with the clutch, ie is it a mechanical defect or have you worn the clutch plate away with your driving style?

have they actually removed the gearbox yet and submitted the photos/claim to toyota yet?

Most new car warranties provide cover for manufacturering faults, but not for wear and tear. So if the clutch issue is judged as being a manufacturing fault, it should be covered. If judged as wear and tear, it won't be covered.

This is the case with most new car warranties.

I can't see that any dealer will be able to confirm whether the fault is either a manufacturing defect or wear and tear, until the clutch has been taken out and examined. So your choices are:

1. Let the dealer remove the clutch to determine what the fault is. If it is manufacturing defect, the warranty should cover the repair. If the fault is due to wear and tear, this won't be covered under the new car warranty.

2. On the assumption the issue is wear and tear, take the car to a third party garage for clutch replacement.

Before considering legal action, one needs to be sure one has firm grounds for taking such action, and that one can afford the subsequent costs if one takes legal action, and loses.
