Aygo headlight height adjustment motor

I have stupidly taken out one of my 2015 Aygo headlight height adjustment motors thinking it was the bulb fitment. Fitting the motor back into the headlight is easy but the beam is now much lower than the other side. Investigation of the headlight shows that the rod that moves in and out from the motor has a ball on the end which should click back into a clip on the back of the lens. The problem is that when you refit the motor the rod does not clip back in, it just pushes the lens forward. You sort of need to be able to hold the lens from the front so that you can push against it. Would anyone of fitted one of these before or know how it is done. Much appreciated!
