New owner - some advice!

Hi all,

Just purchased a 1996 MR2 GT this afternoon, having a look at a few things that the owner mentioned:

High beam doesn't work
Brake Pedal is squishy, probably depressing the pedal 60% to get the car to start stopping, hence needing to leave a larger stopping distance
A bit of a misunderstanding with what fuel to put in - Owner was putting in standard Shell unleaded, is this ok or not?
Car seems to be a tad slow from my expectations, acceleration feels a bit slow.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

I bought this for a great price, a few things to touch up and sort out before MOT in July but other than that happy.

Thanks!

Does the high beam tell-tale light illuminate, and does it feel like the switch is working?  Check bulbs, relay, fuse, wiring.

Does the brake pedal 'firm up' if you pump the pedal a few times?  Does the pedal hold firm?  Does the pedal hold firm if you pump it up with the engine off?  Check brake pads & discs/drums as a first port of call.
