Hello Everyone.

Looking for advice re fuse problem. After plugging in a coffee warmer toy cigarette lighter my radio, cigarette lighters (dashboard and aux in boot) and electric door mirrors have simaltaniously ceased working.

Ive checked all the tiny fuses (under steering column and in box in engine bay) but all appear intact.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Duncan

The linked info suggests that you should be looking to replace fuses 15 and/or 16 in the fuse box in the passenger compartment - but all I did was Google ... 😉

  • 3 weeks later...

Is a 1999 Toyota RAV4, Jap import. Electrical problems are usually caused by the fuse box located behind the dashboard on the passenger side of Toyota vehicles (across from the glove compartment). I've replaced every fuse in this vehicle without success - all new fuses work for a few days to two weeks and then blow again. This takes about one hour.

I just replaced the blower motor control switch which was stuck in the position of full-blast defrost [that is, stuck at max temperature - hot air]. I literally had to kick it several times to get it out of this position and then it would blow cold air (as expected). When I went to put it back in place, it was not level (it leaned towards the front of the car) and this caused maybe a 1/2" gap between the blower motor control switch and its housing. I put it back on with some pressure (not much!) - and it has blown all of the fuses again.

I read somewhere that if you replace the blower motor control switch it can need some sort of relearning procedure. Because it was leaning away from its housing, I think that this made it suspect when the vehicle tried to relearn and so blew all fuses. Or perhaps not.

More likely you have a problem alternator which is producing overvoltage.

Even if the ecu needs to recognise every new piece of hardware you ever changed it would not blow all the fuses! The blower issue is a purple pilchard.

As above see what voltage you are getting at the battery with the engine running- any more than 15V and your charging circuit might be the cause.
