Handbrake

Hi guys, I have a major and very confusing issue with my handbrake on one wheel. My handbrake was working fine and then suddenly began adjusting itself outwards (tightening) on one side only, meaning the handbrake was only moving two clicks and the brake was rubbing with the handbrake released. I adjusted it out and it happened again. I ordered a complete new adjuster from Toyota and installed it. Now it’s unwinding itself on a daily basis (loosening) so the handbrake nearly goes to ten clicks…. I’m loosing my patience with this car and I can’t think of a reasonable solution / cause of the issue.

Is the spring on top of the ratchet engaging? Sounds like its either come off or rusted away. You'll see it sits on top of the sprocket wheel on the adjuster

Looks like the arm you see on the right in the pic attached sitting on top of the sprocket wheel (pic of the old shoes in my previous yaris)

Hi corradovr,

mine doesn’t use that style of adjuster unfortunately, I think yours is the Japanese style

Did both adjusters come in the box ?? They should be marked L and R (G and D), you need the R (D) for the driver's side the adjuster that holds the wheel should be to the front

French translation

Gauche - Left

Droite - Right

You're right, but I assume there should be something similar on yours, ie a method to allow adjustment of the shoes whilst preventing them opening automatically, although that pic was from my old ph1 1.3 cdx Yaris which had drums at the rear.
