My parents have two of the things (5 doors) - I guess it just depends how they're used! Ours do more off-roading just getting to and from my parent's house than most do in an entire year...

If that's the only negative thing that he could say then we should be proud! (no, not like that  )

Actually, off-roading in a RAV4 not that diffciult if you fit off-road tyres - that makes a big difference. A bit of skill helps, but as has been said most used very much on road. And why not?

Didn't see TG last night, but I gather the X3 gota kicking. Won't stop sales rising, you watch.

I'm with Toyota PR on this one... My Dad has a heavy plant hire company and uses his 93,000 mile P-reg in his yard and to go up and down to an opencast mine where a lot of his equipment works.

My Mum and Dad also live 800 feet up in the Highlands. In the winter we change to mud and snow tyres and the thing just scoots up the steep, twisty track to get there. Our only complaints are that long grass gets caught below the front bumper and the towbar works as a plough sometimes.

When there's too much snow for even the RAV (about a foot and a bit - about the point where it works as a snowplough rather than just sliding along the top) then we swap and use a Hilux....

We do also have a BMW. A 530d that sits in the garage between about mid-December to the end of February. It doesn't "do" snow!

Edit:

Meant to say (and I know this is hypocracy!) my boss also has a RAV and we have been extracting the urine this morning about what Jezza said...

Rav4's a notorius for hitting things with the front end, especially on very steep gradients both up and down..... A bit like the Freelanders.

But if it works where you are, then it's all good... I just wouldn't fancy taking one on a proper track..
