Wheel Offset

Hi all.

Right. I`m havind god awfull problems with tyre wear. Front tyres last about 4000 miles before the inside edges are mullered. I`ve obviously had the tracking done (Twice) and all the balljoints, bushes and track rod ends are fine.

The only remaining possibilities that i can think of are

1/ The camber angles are wrong. (Are they adjustable on a gen5 celi?)

2/ wrong offset on the wheels. (Possibly causing the above)

Does anyone know how wheel offset is measured? I believe the offset for my car should be about 35-38mm.

Any suggestions?

Offset is the distance between the flat face on the inside of the wheel that sits against the hub on the car and the middle of the wheel(or tyre as its the same thing). If you lay a wheel on the ground and measure up half way, then measure from the groud to the mounting face, subtract one from the other thats your offset. Have a look at this http://www.chris-longhurst.com/carbibles/i...tyre_bible.html I think its explained in there. Has the car been lowered? Lowering the car changes the camber angle and unless you can find some adjustable top mounts you wont be able to adjust the camber. Have you had a 4 wheel alignment check done, its far better than just having the tracking set.

Thanks for the reply kelvin. Cars not been lowered yet. Although the front suspension does bottom out very easily. Prob weak springs. I think i`ve seen somewhere that you can get camber plates. Didn`t pay too much attention at the time. Bet i wont be able to find them now :( In the meantime i`ll get the measuring thing done. Thanks again.
