Door open warning and ignition ring lights on all the time

Hi, Our 1998 Hiace Camper (Jap import to the UK) has the door open light on the dash lit all the time. This happened a few weeks ago. Since then the little illuminated ring around the ignition key is also lit all the time. Not sure if these issues are connected. Not sure where to start without a wiring diagram. Any suggestions would be appreciated. It is draining the Battery.

It is not the pillar switches for the driver and passenger doors and I dont think there was ever one for the sliding or rear doors.

Desperate to fix as i am looking to sell. Many thanks in advance.

Hi there Julian.

Got have no experience with the Hiace but the ignition ring being illiminated is likely connected to the door open warning you have. Would think you have a door switch which has gone short circuit or simply stuck which will cause the dash warning light. Like a lot of vehicles the ignition ring will illuminate as an aid to show where the ignition switch when it's dark. Does the interior light also stay on?

If you can remove the door switches carefully one at a time and then disconnect the wire connected to the back of the switch. Do this to each door in turn leaving the others closed. You should find that the faulty switch will put the dash warning light out along with the igition illumination.

If you're not good at DIY then it's a job for a garage or an autoelectrician.
