Indicators/locking having a senior moment.

It's becoming annoying now after 3 weeks. Hand on door handle and car locks and indicators flash once. Grab door handle and open the door and indicators flash 8 times ( still flashing whilst I am sat in car ) The strange thing that I have discovered today is that if I use the key fob to open / close the car then all is normal. I would add that whilst the indicators are flashing the 8 times the door locks are clicking away in time with the indicators. Very concerned that next time I won't be able unlock the car at all. Anybody got any ideas or am I missing something here.OR the dreaded trip to the dealers!!!
