Hi, I'm looking to fit a Dashcam early next year and wonder if I could get your expert advice. I'm going to use fuse Taps in the fusebox in the passenger footwell. After doing a bit of testing with a multi meter, I've found 3 unused slots in the fusebox that have power, 2 permanent live and 1 switched live. Would it be ok to use these 2 empty slots.

Also, the price of fuse Taps varies from £1 to £9. I want safe quality ones but can any one recommend any good ones

Last question, are these fuses micro low profile type as I need these for the fuse taps.

I've included some photos to try to make things as clear as possible. They were taken with an inspection camera so not super high quality. Many thanks in advance for your help. Steve 😊

Can't help you with cameras or any other car gadgets unfortunately (never installed one on my iQ), but thought you should also be aware of the fuse's rating, in case you wish to protect your circuitry against failure inside your cam AND inside whichever the device(s) the selected fuse is currently  linked to are!

Good luck.

low profile mini fuse are incorrectly sold as micro fuses in some places (halfrauds among others)

quality of the fuse taps is hit-and-miss, some of the cheaper Chinese ones use copper coated aluminium wire what is only suitable for crimping, most dash cams only pull a max of 800-900ma so no issue fusing it at 5 amps

Many thanks everyone for your helpful replies. I think i will order the fuse taps when I order the Dashcam from a reputable dealer rather than risk eBay ones. I'm also aware of correct orientation when installing fuse taps. I'm looking at getting the thinkware u3000 2 channel camera so was going to use either 3 or 5 amp fuses. Thanks again, this forum is very helpful
