Toyota IQ 1.0 2009 MPG

I have recently purchased an IQ, I am surprised at the fuel economy figures, as only getting about 37/39 around town? It's the 1.0 CVT.

What are the normal real MPG figures for town driving?

Can't speak for cvt but manual 50 for town to 55-60 fast roads.

Check your tyre pressures.

Don't treat every traffic light as a race; imagine you've an egg between your foot and the pedal ie press gently so not to break the egg.

Ensure car has recently been serviced and if not or uncertain get it done.

Good luck 👍

David.

I second the above, and with my manual I've even got 70 mpg on longer journeys.

However I have also had periods of mid 30s when I've done only short drives mostly on a cold engine, winter, AC and heating on, lights on, use of wipers, and not really making a solid effort on driving predictively or just too much stop start traffic in town.

I do about 30 miles a day, it's quiet hilly as well. I have a lead foot sometimes and always have heating on, LOL. So might explain things.

My 1.0 CVT does 47-50MPG at the moment.. with 80% (short) city trips, 16" wheels and winter tyres.
So when having fun and playing around with the IQ i think 40MPG is normal.

Mine ranges 45-50, similar as Dutchrav's. Usage is mainly urban with short trips between towns.

I've been driving it for 15 years now, although ocassionally as it's muy wife's car, yet enough to notice a few consistent things consumption wise:

- When facing a long uphill, try to anticipate bring the car to as much speed as possible with a mild foot pressure. The faster you start the slope the easier for the car to climb without rising rpm to max.

- Aerodinamics is really poor in the iQ. Prepare for a low mpg when driving above 50mph in a noticeable upwind. Use the AC when needed - do not open the windows beyond 40mph.

- Expect 35 mpg or lower in sustained 70+ mph trips.

- Consumption may improve with mileage. We noticed a progressively better performance after the first 40k miles. It's roughly 90k now. Routine maintenance done religiously & timely by official Toyota.

Hope this helps.

Not too shabby at all, Piers. Were you making a particular effort to hypermile?

Thank you.

No huge effort... just normal driving...

( Including slow traffic at the Dartford Tunnel. )

Drove from Herts to Essex this week. About 60 miles. And back again.

Was getting 61 mpg.

Impressed...

Normally I average about 54 mpg.
