Apple Carplay for RAV4 2014?

Has anyone installed Apple Carplay into a car which doesn’t have OEM wired CarPlay built in?

IIRC I saw the car care nut guy installing a unit into one of his very old, 600K miles, Lexus car and it worked.

The thing is… you need to install a replacement head unit which supports CarPlay ( plenty available ) 

once that is done wired or wireless (via adapter or native) CarPlay will be your oyster. 
 

same as installing a Panasonic head unit to give you mp3 functionality back in the day
