Seatbelt warning

Strangely seatbelt warning light didn't work earlier. Son was in front passenger seat and stupidly I didn't check he had buckled up. Was driving down road and he said "I haven't put My seat belt on!!!". Immediately pulled over till sorted it and cursed myself for not checking. Strangely though car didn't flag it to Me. Heading away myself tomorrow with work - 5+ hour drive and same again back following day so will need to check it end week. Might just see if detects me setting off v passenger seat. Anyone else had this?
