Question about T27 Avensis tail light upgrade

I have 2010 T27 and I was wondering is it possible to bolt-on upgrade to 2012-2015 Avensis tail lights? Is there any difference at wiring/connectors, clamps/bolts?

Hi Jarkko,

I don't see why it wouldn't be possible but it may be a little tricky with compatibility issues

Obviously you would need to make sure the tail lights from the 2012-2015 Avensis are compatible with the 2010 model. You would need to Look for any differences in the shape, size, and mounting points between the two sets of tail lights.

Also if there are any differences in the wiring and connectors between the two sets of tail lights. If there are, you may need to modify the wiring or use adapters to ensure compatibility.

Again any clamps and bolts used to secure the tail lights on both models. If there are any differences, you may need to buy additional mounting hardware or make modifications to ensure a proper fit.

Hope this helps.😄

Well, everything is possible, some people say... But I´m afraid in the end you have to find out yourself.

The first step is to compare your taillights to the facelift taillights. If the dimensions look the same on the outside, go to the  Mr. Srcab and ask him to take both lights off the shelf so you can check the measurements, mountings and connectors. Only if Mr Scrab is kindly willing to do so...

If everything looks right, go for it!

Or if you have a good friend with a facelift model, you can do a study on his/her car; remove upholstery etc...

Please consider carefully is it worth it. Some may say: if you want the car look like a facelift, then buy one.

I compared pictures at MR Scrab website and connectors and shape/bolts/clamps etc looks pretty same.

Chassis is (maybe?) exactly same 2009-2011 and 2012-2015, only difference is bumbers, lights and other little things?

I have one led burnt at left side but luckily its top outermost at left so it is not so easy to notice. I thought if I get light to some specialist who can replace led when does other one burn out. Same thing if I get "new" 2010 light from scrabyard how long does those leds last. I have no interest to do this upgrade to get car looks facelift, just to get newer leds to light.

Right side light have some micro cracks so it would also be replaced at same time.

I was wondering someone must done/tried this upgrade so if its possible without any modifications.

I'm curious about this myself. To me it looks like the bolts and shape are identical from 2009 through 2015. The only thing that has me a bit worried is if the harness (plugs) are the same from the original to the first facelift. I guess you would also need both the inner and outer lights, otherwise it might look silly as they're designed as a whole on the facelift.

Sure I would upgrade inner lights also.

2009-2011 connector 6a0c4410f5c508631ab3f10f5dd93b74-toyota-

2009-2011 connector also f18b69810606430913b30b7cc1a4562f-toyota-

2012-2015 connector 514d942171e00e6a02bf6f17d56020e4-toyota-

Dont mind that cable tie at upper pic connector.

Inner lights have difference at connectors but there is only 2 pins per light, so it would be easy task to figure out.

They look identical. I would just do it. And don't forget to update us on how it goes, it would be a breakthrough of science for all Avensis owners. I've often thought about switching my instrument cluster with one from a facelifted model to get a digital speedo, so maybe there are also other options to 'facelift' an older model without going too crazy.

I guess you could get a bit cheeky and send an e-mail to a few Toyota dealerships asking what a facelifted tail light costs and explaining that you plan on fitting it onto your non-facelifted car. Maybe they'll say: "Oh yeah that works just fine" or "You can't do that".

Sorry to be cynical, but I highly doubt it. "Computer says no" is the answer (like Little Britain tv series). It is very rare that somebody behind the marmor desk has any experience or interest.

That makes sence. 2012-  has drl, so the rear positioning lights have less hours.

Looks like you've done your research properly, so go for it! The only problem is finding intact lights if you plan to get them from Mr. Scrap... Not possible to test before buying?

Please notice: if you do the modification, the value of your car will not increase at all in the car dealer's opinion...

Anyway: good luck!

I update how it goes if I decide to try this upgrade.

If somewhere comes very cheap tail lights I'll try this or another led at current lights burn out.

It is a known fact that scrap yards know each other's prices well... If some part somewhere is cheaper than usually, it is more likely somehow broken.

And ordering taillights is a lottery, you may or may not get good ones. I think the best way is to go to a scrap yard and buy the lights face to face so you can check them out. A lot of kilometers unless you have several srabbers near you.

One (rare) possibility is of course a private person selling T27 parts but it is also gambling or a lot of kilometers.

Don´t give up! Looking forward to see how it went!

I randomly stumbled on this video. Isn't he doing exactly what you're asking about? Looks like he is upgrading tail lights and they are an exact match.

The plugs for the side lights are the same, but the tailgate plug seems to be different. He connected the tailgate light without the plug. Maybe the licence plate lighs are in same plug too...

The attachment points are the same, as could be expected.
