Connecting a CTEK charger - a different way

Rick_D, as you can connect a solar panel to the OBD Port that suggests two  alternatives.

1.  Connect an OBD plug to the CTEK with that connected to the front as you show.

2.  Locate the OBD positive and negative  (pins 16 and 4) either behind the panel or even in the engine bay.

If be careful with that. I'm a bit wary of having a loose plug floating around behind the grille anyway, given that the OEMs go to a lot of trouble to ensure all wiring is fully secured. If it were to fail and short then the way DD has done it will just blow the dedicated fuse, so no biggie, but if it takes out the fuse for the OBD supply that could affect other stuff. (Is the OBD supply even rated for 5A?)

Even if it is, I'd not risk it. It's not designed to transfer that kind of current. 1A solar panel might be fine but for anything higher I'd rather dig into fuse box and get the high power line (the one for jump starting), if I didn't want to pull the wire to the back of the car
